Jharkhand’s Exam Protests: Youth Demanding Accountability

For the past 13 days, students in Jharkhand have been on the streets. Their demand is not radical. They want a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC exams, and cancellation of tainted tests. On day 13, they formed an 11-member delegation to meet the government. No cameras, no slogans — just a request to talk. This is what frustration looks like when it turns organized.

The backdrop is familiar. Allegations of paper leaks, proxy candidates, and manipulated results in public recruitment exams. The CID has taken actions by arresting 19 people, but students say that is not enough. They want an independent investigation and a clean slate.

Rationally, this is about more than one exam. It is about faith. In states with higher rates of unemployment, government jobs are one of the few ladders of mobility. If that ladder is rigged, an entire generation loses hope.

The students’ approach is notable. They have mentors, legal experts, and journalists in the delegation. They are asking for dialogue, not confrontation. On one hand it shows maturity and on the other it reflects desperation.

The government’s response so far has been slow. Delaying talks only increases anger. In the age of social media, a local protest can become a national issue overnight.

Jharkhand is not alone. From NEET to SSC, students across India are questioning the integrity of exams. The pattern is clear: when institutions fail, youth take to the streets.

The way out is simple but hard. Order a time-bound judicial probe. Publish the findings. Cancel and re-conduct exams if necessity calls. Finally, reform the recruitment process with technologies like - live CCTV, encrypted papers, and third-party audits.

Jharkhand’s government has a choice. Meet the delegation and restore trust, or ignore it and face a bigger agitation. The future of the state’s youth depends on that decision.
