₹7,877-cr boost for electronics parts. The IT Ministry has approved projects worth ₹7,877 crore under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme, ECMS. This is the second major tranche, taking total approvals to ₹69,548 crore.

The focus is on parts India does not yet make at scale: electrolyte additives, hermetic terminals for defense, metalized films for capacitors, and coils. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw called it a step toward an “atmanirbhar” electronics ecosystem.

Ten states are covered, with Tamil Nadu getting the most — 7 projects. The government expects these to generate ₹82,243 crore in production and 10,000 jobs. Wipro’s laminates project saw a ₹1,033 crore increase in outlay.

ECMS is critical because India imports 80% of electronic components. While phone assembly has grown, the value addition is low without local parts. The scheme offers capex-linked incentives to bridge that gap.

Officials say this is one of the fastest-moving programs in MeitY, with weekly approval meetings. The challenge now is execution: land, power, and skilled labor. If successful, ECMS could reduce import dependence and make India a real player in the global electronics supply chain, not just an assembly hub.
