3 dead in Delhi CNG station explosion. Three employees died and three were injured after a truck’s CNG tank exploded during refuelling at a station in Tikri Kalan, Outer Delhi, on Wednesday afternoon.
The blast occurred at 3:47 pm, according to Delhi Fire Service. Four fire tenders reached the site near Tikri Kalan Metro station. Police cordoned off the area. The station had reportedly been closed for repairs due to prior CNG leaks, but was operating at the time.
The deceased were identified as Manish, 25, Brahamjeet and Sunny, 30. Manish, a resident of Baba Haridas Colony, had taken the job 8 months ago to support his family of five. “He was the one refuelling the truck,” said a police officer. His friend said Manish had complained about leaks at the station “for some days”.
Brahamjeet’s nephew said the victim was lying at the station for half an hour with severe burns before being taken to hospital. Sunny, the sole breadwinner for his family, had been working at the station for 3 years.
The driver of the Tata truck was among the injured. A scooter and an Eeco car were also damaged.
Families alleged that staff were not rushed to hospital immediately. “An ambulance had not arrived even then. I took him to Jeevan Jyoti Hospital,” said a relative.Police said they are verifying whether the blast was due to a malfunction in the vehicle or a leak. A case will be registered after the probe.
The incident raises questions about safety protocols at CNG stations, many of which operate in densely populated areas. With Delhi pushing CNG as a cleaner fuel, the number of stations and vehicles has grown rapidly. But maintenance, staff training and emergency response remain concerns.
For the families in Baba Haridas Colony and Nizampur, the loss is immediate. For the city, it’s a reminder that energy transitions must come with safety upgrades.
