Torrential rains over the past few days have wreaked havoc in Nepal. A sudden, massive rise in river water levels has left several parts of the country submerged. Daily life has been disrupted by landslides in hilly regions and floods in the plains. Many major highways and connecting roads have been completely cut off, making it difficult to deliver relief supplies to remote areas.
Amidst the flooding and waterlogging, dozens of workers became trapped after a hydropower project tunnel filled with water. The influx of water and silt severed the workers' contact with the outside world. Upon receiving the information, divers from the Nepal Army and the Armed Police Force launched a rescue operation. However, the rescue efforts are facing significant challenges due to continuous rain and landslides.

In this hour of crisis, the Government of India has extended a helping hand by providing humanitarian assistance. India has promptly dispatched relief supplies and a specialized rescue team (NDRF) to Nepal. The relief material includes food, medicines, tarpaulins, and clean drinking water. Indian Air Force aircraft are being utilized to air-drop supplies in inaccessible areas and evacuate stranded individuals. Both nations are conducting rescue operations jointly.

The Government of Nepal has declared an emergency-like situation in the affected areas. More than a thousand people have been relocated to safe locations and temporary relief camps. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of continued heavy rainfall over the next few days, raising concerns that the situation could worsen further. Residents of low-lying areas have been advised to remain vigilant.

This natural calamity has caused extensive damage to agriculture and infrastructure. Tragic reports are emerging from various parts of Nepal. The Nepalese administration has appreciated the prompt assistance provided by India. Currently, the priority is to safely rescue the workers trapped in the tunnel and provide immediate relief to the affected population.
