Agenda is tough. Last 12 months overseas record - lost Test series in South Africa 1-2, drew England, lost ODI series in Sri Lanka. Senior players' workload and form - Rohit and Virat played only 40% ODIs since 2023 World Cup.BCCI wants transition plan. By 2027 World Cup, Rohit will be 40, Virat 38. Need to build next core - Shubman Gill as ODI captain candidate, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma as middle order, plus pace all-rounder like Nitish Reddy.
Gambhir doctrine is clear - form and fitness over reputation. He told selectors - Yo-Yo test 17, domestic performance mandatory, no auto-selection. T20 stars who can play 360 degrees will be groomed for ODI to increase strike rate.Also discussed - workload management for Bumrah and Siraj, separate red-ball and white-ball contracts, and India A tours to South Africa for 12 months before World Cup.
If BCCI implements this now, India can build youngest ever World Cup side with average age 27. Otherwise, 2027 will be repeat of 2023 - good team, no trophy.
