Cyber fraudsters are targeting innocent people using novel methods such as "digital arrests," part-time job scams, phone hacking via APK files, and fake AI-generated voice calls. To combat these threats, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the cyber police have issued alerts and implemented stringent measures.
The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and deepfake technology has made the nature of cybercrime increasingly complex and dangerous. Criminals are now leveraging AI to mimic the voices of relatives or create fake video calls to swindle money under the guise of emergencies. Such new forms of digital fraud are deceiving not only the general public but also educated and tech-savvy individuals.
To curb these cyber threats, the government and financial institutions have significantly strengthened their security systems. Measures have been put in place to instantly freeze suspicious bank accounts, block illegal SIM cards, and facilitate complaint registration through portals like 'Chakshu'. Additionally, banks are employing AI-based monitoring systems to flag suspicious transactions and detect fraud in real-time.
Cybersecurity experts firmly believe that public awareness, alongside technological safeguards, is the key to preventing cybercrime. Refraining from clicking on unknown links, never sharing OTPs or passwords, and immediately reporting suspicious calls to the cyber helpline number (1930) constitute the best defence against these threats.
A secure and trustworthy digital environment is essential for the success of Digital India. The government, police, banks, and the general public must join forces to combat this cyber threat. In the future, cybersecurity will not remain solely the responsibility of the IT department; instead, it will become an integral part of every citizen's daily digital lifestyle.
