The flydubai FZ1073 reads like a thriller. Mid-air over Saudi Arabia, co-pilot, an Omani national, stabbed captain to crash plane with 170+ Israelis. Passengers described 20 seconds free fall, then fight at cockpit door. Israeli PM Netanyahu confirmed terror bid.

Captain who fought back is Smit Machchhar, Indian national formerly SpiceJet. LinkedIn shows joined flydubai June 2022 after 11 years SpiceJet, over 13 years on Boeing 737, Line Training Captain.

Israeli officials said wounded captain, bloodied on floor, used his "last moments of energy to click open release on cockpit door". Passenger Almog Italie said "massive turbulence before we realised life-or-death struggle". Yaniv Hayun helped incapacitate attacker at Ben Gurion.

Reserve flydubai crew travelling as passengers took control and landed at Tabuk Airport. Flydubai said "all safe", Saudi hospitalised both pilots.

For India, significance double. Indian pilots form backbone of Gulf aviation - 1200+ in UAE. DGCA training trusted globally. Security: insider threat now real. Post-Germanwings 2015, DGCA mandated secondary cockpit barriers in 2024, but Gulf carriers still uneven. India must push ICAO for mandatory.
