IMD Alert for 20 States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a serious weather alert. Warnings have been issued for more than 20 states—including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar—regarding stormy winds reaching speeds of 75–85 km/h and torrential rainfall over the next 48 hours.

According to meteorologists, this sudden weather shift is primarily driven by the simultaneous activity of a 'Deep Depression' formed in the Bay of Bengal and a 'Western Disturbance.' The interaction of these two systems has caused an unexpected intensification of monsoon activity across large parts of North and Central India.

In light of the heavy rainfall alert, the respective state governments have placed their disaster management agencies (SDRF and NDRF) on high alert. Officials in coastal and plain districts have been instructed to maintain round-the-clock monitoring due to the risk of waterlogging in low-lying areas and rising river water levels.

This weather pattern presents a dual challenge for farmers: standing crops face potential damage from strong winds and hailstorms, while crops in waterlogged areas are at risk of rotting. The Agriculture Department has advised farmers to temporarily suspend irrigation and the spraying of pesticides.

This weather activity also highlights the broader impacts of climate change, specifically the increasing frequency of extreme rainfall events—such as cloudbursts—occurring within short timeframes. Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and strictly adhere to advisories issued periodically by the local administration.
