Highlighting this achievement during an event, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that India's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and defense sector startups have become the main pillars of this technological and industrial revolution. Government policies have given a new impetus to indigenous defense production.
India's defense exports have registered record growth in the last few years. Indian companies are now exporting not only light arms and ammunition, but also advanced radar systems, armored vehicles, missile components and defense software to many countries of the world. The 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' campaigns have provided the necessary incentives and conducive environment to local manufacturers to make products of global standards.
The role of new defense startups has been extremely important in this success. Young innovators working in Artificial Intelligence, Drone Technology, Cyber Security and Advanced Material Science are developing innovative solutions to meet the modern requirements of Defense Forces. Schemes like 'iDEX' (Innovations for Defense Excellence) instituted by the government have provided these startups with the necessary funding and mentorship to develop prototypes and conduct military trials.
Defense acquisition processes have been simplified to encourage participation of the private sector and MSMEs. Phased restrictions have been imposed on imports of many defense components, thereby creating an assured market for domestic industries. This move is not only saving foreign exchange but also creating lakhs of highly skilled direct and indirect employment opportunities within the country.
India's growing presence in the global defense market shows that the military products manufactured in the country are competitive in terms of both quality and cost. India's strategic and diplomatic relations are also being strengthened by the supply of defense equipment to friendly countries. The Defense Minister has expressed confidence that in the coming years, India will further strengthen its position among the top countries of the world in the field of defense production.
