Karnataka's SIR exercise is mirroring Bihar's chaos. Reports of bulk deletion applications filed through BLOs - at least four lakh in private submissions - have raised alarm in NDA camp itself. The deadline to dispose of claims and objections in SIR is nearing.
The Election Commission says 4.38 lakh applications were disposed, 1.30 lakh served notices. The final electoral roll will be published with photographs. The controversy is over Form 7 misuse - any voter can object to inclusion of another voter.

NDA partners in Karnataka privately admit the burden on voters is high - especially migrant workers, elderly and those without documents. People have been made to run for birth certificates, residency proof. The opposition claims JDS had raised this but BJP insisted.

If EC's goal is to purify rolls before 2028 Lok Sabha, it is also creating a new inequality - those who can prove documents stay, those who can't get deleted. For a state that saw 67% turnout, a 2-3% deletion can swing 15 seats.
