Andhra Pradesh CID's Cyber Crime wing busted a Rs 15 crore crypto investment fraud with links across India, UAE, and US, arresting three.

Modus operandi: Telegram groups, fake exchange apps showing fake profits, lure to invest in BTC, USDT with 300% return in 30 days. Initial small withdrawals allowed, then big investments blocked. Funds transferred to 13 bank accounts, then to crypto wallets, then to Dubai via Hawala.

Victim count 120 across Telugu states, one lost Rs 42 lakh.

CID said syndicate used mule accounts rented for Rs 5,000 per month, 51 accounts frozen.

This is not isolated. Chainalysis says India saw $3.7 bn crypto scam inflows in 2025-26. With no crypto regulation law, only 30% TDS and 1% TCS, enforcement is grey.

From Indian investor psychology: post-Covid, youth with trading apps seek quick money. Dream of $1 lakh per month. Scammers exploit lack of financial literacy and fear of missing out.

For regulation, this case shows need for central crypto authority, not just FIU-IND registration. CERT-In's new six-hour incident reporting rule for Al systems is good, but crypto exchanges need similar.

Andhra's success is due to its Cyber Crime cell's blockchain analysis tools - only 7 states have them.

Investor advisory: no legit crypto gives assured 300% returns, check FIU registered exchanges, never transfer to personal wallet for investment.

Fraud spread across 3 continents means MLAT requests needed, prosecution will take years.
