Nine years late, Rs 1,941 crore spent, and Barapullah Phase-III is already infamous. Inaugurated Tuesday evening by Home Minister Amit Shah to connect Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar-I and provide signal-free travel from East Delhi to AlIMS, INA, South Delhi, the 3.5 km elevated corridor saw massive jams on Day 2 and Day 3.

Delhi Traffic Police admitted bottleneck - Mayur Vihar-Ashram lane being blocked, vehicles forced to reverse and merge into main lane adding to bottleneck. The worst congestion reported towards Sarai Kale Khan end where traffic from multiple directions converges. Commuters said “This is ridiculous. Traffic police should stop people entering flyover until cars on it are cleared.”

For Delhi, lesson is clear: flyovers don't solve traffic, they shift it. Barapullah was designed to handle 1.5 lakh vehicles daily and cut travel from 60 to 20 minutes for Noida-Ghaziabad to South Delhi via Delhi-Meerut Expressway. But without last-mile integration at Mayur Vihar metro station, without decongestion at Sarai Kale Khan - where Ring Road, Nizamuddin, and new corridor meet - jam just moved.
